Yoga is an ancient discipline from India. It is both spiritual and physical. Yoga uses breathing techniques, exercise and meditation. It helps to improve health and happiness. Yoga is the Sanskrit word for union. The term “yoga” in the Western world often denotes a modern form of Hatha yoga, yoga as exercise, consisting largely of the postures called asanas. It also helps develop your mindful awareness. Mindfulness or ‘mindful awareness’ is focusing your attention on what is being experienced here and now, without reacting to or judging it.

It’s a good idea to try some different types of yoga to see which ones you like best. If you’re looking for a workout, hot yoga or power yoga could be up your alley. If you’re after something a little more chilled, maybe something like hatha or yin might be more your speed.
