Exercises That Boost Your Mental Health

Exercise can play a major factor in an individual’s mental health. Exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function. Exercise has also been found to alleviate symptoms such as low self-esteem and social withdrawal.

We’ve asked the professionals what some of the best exercises there are to boost that mental health of yours!

Walking

One of the simplest, and most accessible forms of exercise. Research has found that low-intensity aerobic activity is the best form of exercise for encouraging positive thoughts and improving alertness. So, jump on one of our many treadmills and get walking! HOT TIP: Grab a gym buddy and talk while walking. Trust us, time flies and you’ll get all the latest goss!

Yoga

With gentle movements, Yoga is soothing and helps individuals get in touch with themselves. Focusing on the breath, you will uncover that your body can be very powerful when used to its full potential. Check out our class timetable  to find your next yoga session!

HIIT Workouts

HIIT stands for ‘High-intensity interval training’. It is a cardiovascular exercise strategy alternating between short periods of intense exercises, along with less intense recovery periods. These workouts are designed to increase the stress levels, leading to a surge in cortisol and adrenaline. It is believed over time; these workouts can support stress coping strategies in daily life. Dance

Dancing is often associated with being happy, but even if you’re not feeling on top of the world, getting yourself into the rhythm can mean that self-esteem gradually increases as you lose yourself in the moves. Crunch Fitness dance classes are choreography-focussed classes where you learn routines or combinations in a wide range of dance styles. Some are taught track by track and others you learn a full routine in one class. Feels like a workout, no? Is it a workout? yes!

Other benefits of dance are:

  • Burn calories while having fun
  • Increases cardiovascular fitness
  • Accelerates fat loss
  • Great for improving coordination
  • Agility development
